California Adventure’s Animation Academy

There is a hidden gem in Disney California Adventure, it’s the Animation Academy building. In this building, you can rest and cool off (more on that later), meet Crush the Turtle, find out your hidden Disney personality in the Sorcerer’s Workshop and Beast’s Library.

In this large building is ample space to rest and draw. Every day, a schedule is released on what characters are being taught by Disney artists. You get a large sheet of paper and an instructor to guide you through the process of sketching a character. It has quickly become a family favorite. We have drawn Sally from Nightmare Before Christmas, Goofy and Daisy Duck. If you have a budding artist, engineer or architect, this is a great spot for them to learn how to sketch. You leave with a great souvenir.

Because my husband and daughter love to draw, this is a wonderful way to unwind and take it easy while you learn how to draw a Disney Character. The whole process takes about 30-40 minutes.

It’s free and all you have to do is line up at the door and decide which character to draw. AND there are NO ERASERS on the pencils so… prepare yourself.
